Other than being a politically and religiously known place, Ujjain is even considered to be the centre of education because of the very fact that Lord Krishna and his best pal, Sudama, received in Guru Sandipani’s ashram here. The area around the ashram is called Ankapata, commonly supposed to have been the place that Lord Krishna used for washing his writing tablet.
The Gomti Kunda used to be the source of water here. There is also an icon of Nandi, hailing from the Shunga period, found near the tank.
The Sandipani Ashram is approx 7 km from Ujjain railway station (Madhya Pradesh).
